Ionic smokeless ashtray review

After researching many smokeless ashtrays, I chose ionic smokeless ashtray based on technology and the makers name. Ionic smokeless ashtray is developed to eliminate smoke, second hand smoke and odour. Smoke is broken down into minute, negatively charged particles which are then captured by the positively charged stainless steel lining of the dome. I was so excited about this product, but it just doesn't work as promised.

You can use batteries or AC power, but with the batteries (yes, even brand new ones), the strength isn't great enough to effectively power the machine. It works better with AC power, but even with that, it's not as great as promised.

The dome does capture a good portion of the smoke, but the slightest movement of air in the room will cause smoke to billow out of the sides. The ionic portion of the ashtray works sporadically (with smoke coming out of the top when it's not working well). And even when it works pretty well, it's a nightmare to keep clean.

I cannot even begin to tell you how disgusting the dome gets even with moderate use. The ashtray itself is like any other ashtray--just take it to the sink and clean it. But the machine is virtually impossible to clean. The nicotine builds up all over the outside dome quite rapidly. It is difficult and awkward to clean.

The inside dome is uncomfortable to reach into for cleaning. Moreover, the gunk left behind, even when you don't let it build up, requires serious elbow grease and use of alcohol . . . and even then, you just can't get it clean. Why in the world they don't use a Teflon type surface is beyond me.

I purchased my first ionic smokeless ashtray and was initially fairly pleased with it. It wasn't amazing, but it did definitely cut down on the smoke. And then I had to clean it. Not only did I have the cleaning problems noted above, once I cleaned it for the first time (and I was quite careful), that's when it began to work sporadically.

Thinking that I had probably damaged the ionic mechanism during cleaning, I decided to spring for a second one with the thought that I'd be VERY, VERY careful in cleaning. Well, despite extreme care (I never even touched the ionic "eye" area), the second one crapped out in much the same way as the first.

If you are a smoker and intend to light up and set your cigarette, cigar, etc. in the ashtray and let it burn....you might need this. If it is in your fingers, you will have to hold it under the umbrella to in order for the thing to work! It makes no sound. Does it really do anything?

It's a great idea, but the product simply isn't well constructed. You're better off with a Holmes smoke grabber (on AC power). The Holmes is loud, but it works better than the ionic smokeless ashtray . . . and it's substantially cheaper (at least if you run it on AC and not batteries).
